HIP members arrested: attempt to burn Rajapakse in effigy

Madurai, Nov 11 (UNI) Police today arrested 12 members of Hindu Ilaingar Peravai (HIP), when they attempted to burn an effigy of Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapakse to condemn the killing of Tamils in the ongoing ethnic strife in the island nation.

Police rounded up the agitators, led by the HIP district president M N Rajan here, when they assembled near the statue of celebrated freedom fighter Kattabomman and seized the effigy from them.
