CPI demands more low cost houses in UT
Chandigarh, Nov 11 (UNI) Expressing concern over inadequate housing facility for comman man in the city, the Communist Party of India today demanded the Chandigarh Administration to immediately construct at least 30,000 low cost houses.
''There is an acute shortage of low cost accommodation in the city as no houses were constructed by the city administration for common man since long and the rentals were sky rocketing, CPI, Chandigarh secretary Devi Dayal Sharma said in a press conference here.
He said that during the past 15 years only 4,000 houses had been built for the low income group while the administration had been acquiring large area of rural land at low rates and allocating it to big companies at exhorbitant prices.
Mr Sharma, who is also a member of Chandigarh Administrators's Advisory Council, demanded urgent meeting of the Council to discuss this and other vital issue concerning common.
He threatened that the CPI and its allies would start agitation against the city administration if no action would be taken in this regard.
