Airport land acquisition to be completed by January: Minister

Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 11 (UNI) Kerala Home and Tourism Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan today said land acquisition for the proposed airport in Kannur would be completed by January next.

Inaugurating the airport's website here, he said the project would be implemented under Public-Private-Participation (PPP) and 74 per cent of its shares would be given to individuals and consortia.

Mr Balakrishnan said nearly 2,000 acres of land was required for the airport and the government had already acquired 700 acres, besides 200 acre of land acquired during the term of the E K Nayanar government.

He said 64 per cent of the people had already handed over their documents to the government.

The government would construct six-lane and four-lane roads as part of the airport, he said and added that the government would appoint three consulting agencies for technical, financial and legal process.

KINFRA would distribute cost of the land to the people, he added.
