Vote canvassing through SMS banned

Bhopal, Nov 10 (UNI) The Election Commission has banned use of Short Message Service (SMS) on mobile phones on a large scale for canvassing votes 48 hours before close of polls.

Any such act will be considered as violation the Model Code of Conduct and expenditure on such large scale SMS would be added to the expenditure of the respective candidate.

The chief electoral officer of Madhya Pradesh said in a release that the returning officers had been directed to keep a watch on canvassing through SMS and collect details from Service Provider.

Police will take appropriate action against the erring candidates.
