Tripura to spend NREGA funds for water source

Agartala, Nov 10: The Tripura government has planned to spend more money from the National Rural Employment Guarantee (NREGA) scheme to create sustainable water sources in the state.

State Rural Development Minister Jitendra Choudhury said according to the report, Tripura had received about seven per cent less than the normal rainfall this monsoon, which triggered crisis in potable water, besides affecting fish cultivation.

''Efforts had been made for preservation of rainwater for containing drought-like situation and about 25 per cent of the total NREGA work centre round the water resource generation process,'' Mr Choudhury said.
