Rs 9521.27 cr paid to farmers for paddy in Punjab

Chandigarh, Nov 10 (UNI) The six government agencies have so far paid over Rs 9521.27 crore for paddy procured by agencies during current Kharif marketing season.

According to an official spokesperson, online monitoring system of the payment on the NET proved quite successful as the farmers of the state are being made payment of paddy procured by the government agencies within 48 hours of lifting of paddy from the procurement centres.

The spokesperson said that six government agencies and millers procured over 126,79,115 tonnes of paddy by yesterday evening.

PUNGRAIN procured 35,04,236 tonnes of paddy, MARKFED procured 27,05,168 tonnes of paddy. PUNSUP procured 26,45,897 tonnes of paddy, Punjab State Warehousing Corporation procured 14,59,969 (12.4%) tonnes of paddy besides 12,34,895 tonnes of paddy procured by Punjab Agro. The Central Government Agency FCI procured only 2,03,104 tonnes of paddy. The Millers procured 9,25,846 tonnes of paddy by yesterday.

Ludhiana district maintained its lead by procuring 15,80,475 tonnes of paddy followed by Sangrur 14,37,824 tonnes and Ferozepur 12,02,167 tonnes.
