Dalits resort relay hunger strike for job in RSP

Rourkela, Nov 10 (UNI) Members of the Sundergarh'' Dalit Yuba Parishad affiliated to Paschim Orissa Dalit Yuba Parishad are on a relay hunger strike since November six demanding appointment as semi- skilled worker in Rourkela Steel Plant.

Parishad President Maheswar Haripal said they would continue their strike till their demand was conceded.

Mr Haripal said despite a clear direction from the Steel and Mines Minister Ram Vilas Paswan to fill up the SC quota, the RSP authorities were outsourcing the job through NGOs and contractors.

The recruitment of semi-skilled workers in the RSP had been stopped since 1996 though about 10,000 SC candidates were waiting for jobs, he alleged.

Parishad sources said four of their members were shifted to the Rourkela Government Hospital yesterday after their condition deteriorated.
