New police rules to be finalized soon: DGP
Jalandhar, Nov 8 (UNI) Punjab Director General of Police (DGP) N P S Aulakh today said that a complete strategic Police Plan was being finalised to make new rules under newly notified Police Act to strengthen the working of the state police force.
"A complete Strategic Police Plan in which new objectives and rules of the state force will be added is being finalised and it will soon be presented before the State Police Board headed by the Chief Minister to be later presented in assembly for final approval", said the DGP, who was here for the closing ceremony of the All India Police Games.
Addressing newspersons on the occasion, Mr Aulakh said that although the new Police Act was already notified in February this year, the new rules were yet to be finalised, the mandatory requirement of the new Act.
"New rules included fixed tenure of the police officers from the rank of SHO and stress on community policing to create more friendly environment in the police,'' he said adding that there were plans to establish specialised Police Wing to impart training to the police officials for solving problems in a friendly atmosphere.
He also welcomed the constitution of State Police Board, headed by Chief Minister, which would take up issues relating to the functioning of the police.
At the end of the occasion, Manpreet Badal, Punjab Finance Minister who was there as a Chief Guest announced special grant of Rs 10 lakh to the state force for promoting sports activities among police personnel.
