Man arrested for raping, abetting suicide attempt

Kaithal, Nov 8 (UNI) Local police has arrested a man on the charge of raping a girl on the pretext of marrying her and later abetting her in attempting suicide.

The accused Balkar Singh of Kakrala Anayat village in Guhla sub-division of this district, who was produced in a local court today was sent into 14-day judicial custody.

Giving details of the case, a police spokesman Roshan Lal Khatkar told media persons here today that a girl of Kakrala Anayat had lodged a complaint with the police on October 3 that Balkar Singh of the same village was a frequent visitor to their house. In January last, he came to her house and finding her alone allegedly raped her and later cajoled her with promise of marriage.

She said that the accused repeatedly raped her and got her aborted twice. However, the accused got himself engaged with some other girl and refused to marry the victim.

The victim told Balkar to either marry her or get her poison to commit suicide. Balkar brought poison for the girl and assured her that after her he too, would consume poison.

The girl consumed the poison and was rushed to the civil hospital by her family.

On the directions of S P Sultan Singh Hari Ram, Inchrge Siwan police station investigated the case and arrested Balkar Singh in case registered against him under section 376, 313 and 420 IPC.
