Bhubaneswar, Nov 8 (UNI) Lok Shakti Abhiyan (LSA) Orissa unit president Prafulla Samantray today demanded a thorough probe into the incident which led to the chopping off palms of the five tribals, killed in the Kalinga Nagar police firing on January 2, 2006.
Talking to mediapersons here, Mr Samantray said, ''While seven tribals were killed on the spot in the police firing, five succumbed to their injuries, when they were being taken to Jajpur district headquarter hospital.'' He alleged that the doctors, who conducted the post-mortem, were forced by some officials to cut the palms for preservation for the purpose of identification of the victims.
Mr Samantray said while the three doctors were taken to task, suspended form their post and issued showcause for dismissal from the service, no action was taken against the officers, who had instructed for the heinos act.
He demanded that the government should withdraw the suspension of the three doctors and ordered for a fair inquiry into the incident so that the real culprits would be punished.
