Atomic Energy Commission Ex-Chairman hails Indo-US Nuke deal
Durgapur, Nov 8 (UNI) Former Atomic Energy Commission Chairman M R Srinivasan today welcomed India's move to ink the nuclear agreement with the US as the country made slow growth in the atomic energy sector.
Speaking at the Fourth Convention of the National Institute of Technology (NIT) here as the Guest of Honour, Mr Srinivasan said the country's uranium reserve which was in Jadugora in Jharkhand, was of low-grade.
'' Moreover, its upgradation will entail more time and expenditure. And this is the reason why the Indo-US Nuclear Deal is a must,'' he observed.
Addressing the gathering, Chairman of the Board of Governors of NIT Bikash Sinha said, '' In my opinion the Indo-US nuclear treaty is of utmost importance as it opens all the windows to the world, especially to the Nuclear Suppliers Group (NSG).'' Cern University of Geneva spokesperson Jurgen Schukraft was present at the function as the Chief Guest. NIT Director Dr Swapan Bhattacharjee was also present on the occasion.
