Pudukkottai, Tamil Nadu, Nov 7 (UNI) State Local Administration Minister M K Stalin said women members of self-help groups (SHG) have been proving their mettle in economic activities thereby contributing to the socio-economic development of Tamil Nadu.
Distributing revolving funds to the tune of Rs 18.90 crore to 3,250 SHGs here yesterday, he also said loan repayment by women members was so prompt that bank officials' response to sanctioning credit to them was overwhelming.
Laying the foundation stone for 882 works, to be implemented in the district at an outlay of Rs 79.92 crore, he said the state government was concerned with the plight of the economically weaker sections. Chief Minister M Karunanidhi had taken prompt action to not only reduce the price of rice from Rs two to Rs one a kg, being supplied through fair price shops, but also ensured availability of essential commodities through these outlets.
He also declared other infrastructural facilities provided at an estimate of Rs 26.58 crore.
