Plan to reclaim 57,770 hectares of waterlogged lands
New Delhi, Nov 7 (UNI) The Government proposes to reclaim 57,770 hectares of water-logged areas in the country under Command Area Development Water Management scheme.
The scheme initiated in April 1996, was aimed at reclaiming the water logged lands. The water logging was caused by irrigation commands caused by surface flooding inundation or due to rise in water level and bringing back the degraded land to productive use.
The states get 50 per cent assistance in the form of grants under this component. The grant was increased to Rs 15,000 a hectare from Rs 15,000 for surface drainage and Rs 40,000 an acre for execution of sub-surface drainage, an official release said today.
