K'taka CM approach Centre for relief fund
Bangalore, Nov 7 (UNI) Karnataka Agriculture Minister S A Ravindranath today said the State government will approach the Centre for the release of compensation under the Calamity Relief Fund to farmers who suffered a ground nut crop loss in Chitradurg and Davanagere districts.
Mr Ravindranath told mediapersons here that the crop loss was reported in more than 2.50 lakh hectares in these two districts due to failure of rain.
The State government will soon lead a delegation to the Centre to demand for Rs 2,000 per hectare as compensation under the Calamity Relief Fund, he said.
Stating that the Centre had announced Rs 840 per quintal as the Minimum Support price for maize, he said that the State government will open procurement centres in taluks where it is grown.
