HP seeks ADB fund for Rs 1,307 cr Shimla Water Supply Scheme
Shimla, Nov 7 (UNI) The Himachal Pradesh Government has proposed a Rs 1,307 crore Pabbar River Fed Gravity Water Supply Scheme for funding to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through the Union Urban Development Ministry.
The Chief Minister said keeping in view the long term water supply requirement of the capital town Shimla, the state government had proposed a detailed project report on construction of gravity water supply scheme from river Pabbar to Shimla city.
''Shimla town has expanded tremendously towards all the directions thereby putting pressure over the existing water supplies while additional water is required to feed the floating population visiting the town every day. At times it becomes difficult to deliver the water supply to the farthest corner regularly due to low pressure of the water,'' Mr Dhumal said.
''With the completion of the above scheme the drinking water problem of the capital town would be solved for coming fifty years,'' he added.
He said the gravitational water supply schemes had comparatively less maintenance expenditure as compared to lift water supply schemes.
