India, Hong Kong sign pact on transfer of sentenced persons
New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) The Union Cabinet today gave approval for signing and ratification of the Agreement on Transfer of Sentenced Persons between India and Hong Kong to enable such persons from both sides serve their remaining sentences in their native places.
The decision taken at a meeting of the Union Cabinet here, would enable the sentenced persons to be ''near their families'' and help in their social rehabilitation as the persons of Hong Kong, convicted in India, could be transferred to their native place while prisoners of Indian origin could be brought to India to serve their remaining sentence.
A special request for the transfer would be made by the sentenced person or any other person who is entitled to act on his/her behalf in accordance with the law of the contracting party to which the request is made.
The request for transfer would have to be agreed upon by the transfering and receiving parties, an official release said.
