Honour killings: 2 girls shot in Greater Noida

{image-Greater Noida_06112008.jpg news.oneindia.in}Greater Noida, Nov 6: In a case of suspected honour killings, two girls of 'Pal' community (cattle grazers) were allegedly killed by their cousin brother at Surajpur in Gautam Buddh Nagar district of Uttar Pradesh neighbouring the national capital.

The teenaged girls – Pinki and Sonam – were reportedly 'punished' for fleeing with a boy. The girls had fled from their house together with some person and the family came to know about it. The girls" cousin, Sonu, as per the preliminary investigations, got hold of them and shot them. "We have arrested him and the weapon used in the killings has also been recovered," Gautam Buddh Nagar Senior Superintendent of Police R K Chaturvedi said on Thursday, Nov 6.

After killing the girls their bodies were brought home for the last rites when somebody informed the police. Initially, the police arrested the whole family when it was found that the girls were murdered. Now, five people, including the fathers of both the girls, have been detained in connection with the murder.

"It is still not clear whether fathers were part of the conspiracy to kill their respective daughters, or what role they played. The investigations are on and the clear picture will emerge soon," Chaturvedi explained.
