First Gandhi statue to be installed in Japan
New Delhi, Nov 6 (UNI) The first ever statue of Mahatma Gandhi would be installed in Japan at Suginami, a suburb of capital Tokyo.
The life-size bronze statue was presented by Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today to Suginami Mayor Hiroshi Yamada at her residence.
The statue has been made available by Gandhi Ashram Reconstruction Trust which was founded by the great Gandhian late Dr Nirmala Deshpande.
Senior diplomats from Japan Embassy, former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu and other eminent personalities were present on this occasion.
Speaking on this occasion, Ms Dikshit said the message of Mahatma Gandhi is still relevant and continue to remain relevant for all time to come.
