CPI (M) wants judicial probe into police firing
Chennai, Nov 4 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu Unit of the Communist Party of Indian (Marxist) today demanded a judicial probe into the police firing on supporters of Puthiya Tamizhagam (PT) Leader K Krishnasamy at E-Kottaipatti Village, near Ezumalai, in which one dalit was killed.
In a statement here, CPI(M) State Secretary N Varadharajan condemned the police action in which one person was killed and two others injured.
He said the State Government should take steps to ease the tension in the area and provide adequate compensation to the family of the victim, Suresh (24), besides ordering a judicial probe into the firing incident.
Observing tension had been prevailing in area since November two when Dr Krishanasamy's convoy was attacked while he was returning from the sensitive Uthapuram Village, he said the firing incident could have been avoided had the police deployed adequate forces in the area.
Instead of solving the issue amicably when the PT supporters hit the streets for a road roko agitaton, police had resorted to firing, killing a Dalit youth.
''This high-handed action of the police is condemnable,'' he said, and urged the State Government to order a judicial probe into it.
