CPI(M) condemns landmine attack on convoy of CM in W Midnapore
New Delhi, Nov 3 (UNI) The CPI(M) today strongly condemned the attack on the convoy of West Bengal Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee by Maoists who triggered a landmine blast in West Midnapore district.
Union Minister for Steel Ram Vilas Paswan and Minister of State for Steel Jitin Prasada were also travelling on the same route.
In a statement issued here, the Party said the Maoists have targeted the CM and have killed a number of CPI(M) cadres and activists recently.
The Maoists have opposed the setting up of a steel plant at Salboni. Firm action should be taken against the disruptive elements who are inimical to the interest of the people and the development of the state, the Party said.
Intellectuals from the state have condemned the attack on CM's convoy at Salboni. They have also criticised the State Government's move for setting up of the Steel plant before taking up any developmental projects for the area when it is known for decades that the Maoists were ruling over the adjoining ''Belpahari blocks'' in the same district.
