CEO review poll arrangments in north Kashmir, assures free elections
Srinagar, Nov 3 (UNI) Assuring free and fair elections in Jammu and Kashmir, State Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) B R Sharma said guidelines issued by the Election Commission would be strictly followed.
Reviewing poll arrangements at Bandipora yesterday for three assembly constituencies of Gurez, Bandipora and Sonawari, going to polls along with seven other segments on November 17 in the first phase, Mr Sharma directed the returning officers to strictly follow the model code of conduct issued by the ECI for free and fair polls.
''Free and fair elections will be held in the state while following the ECI norms strictly,'' CEO said.
About the complaints by some parties that they were not been given proper security cover, Mr Sharma directed the officials that all political parties should be given equal treatment and security as per the norms.
He impressed upon the district administration to keep all the communication means open for free flow of election related information.
Mr Sharma also directed the officers to maintain records of complaints and grievances being received from public and ensure their redressal.
The CEO also directed the officers to make fully aware all political parties about the norms and rules set by the ECI. No one should be allowed to use government property for election campaigning.
