Dawn-to-dusk Assam bandh hits normal life

Guwahati, Nov 3: The All Assam Student Union (AASU) sponsored dawn-to-dusk Assam bandh on Monday, Nov 3 affected the normal life as it was fully observed in the Brahmaputra valley. The shutdown evoked partial response in the Barak valley.

The call for bandh was issued in protest aganist the recent bomb blasts which claimed 81 lives, so far.

Altogether 22 AASU supporters were arrested from Rangiya near here this morning as they were trying to stop vehicles on the National Highway, police said.

However, the bandh call received high objection from the common people as a similar shutdown, called by the VHP, was observed in the state on Saturday.

As a consequence, the AASU reduced the bandh duration from 24 hours to 11 hours.

Meanwhile, the AASU introduced a bus service for the relatives of the injured who were admitted in various hospitals of the Guwahati city.

There was no report of any untoward incident in the state, so far.
