TN CM to lay foundation stone for SEZ

Perambalur, Nov 2: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi would lay the foundation stone for the Special Economic Zone(SEZ) in this district of Tamil Nadu during the next month or January 2009, according to Union Minister for Communication and Information Technology A Raja.

Inaugurating a photo exhibition in connection with the Anna Centenary celebrations here yesterday, the minister said the land acquisition for the SEZ had been completed and the final approval for the project was expected from the Centre soon.

Mr Raja said Mr Karunanidhi would also lay foundation stones for the construction of buildings for the Government Medical College here and the Government Engineering College at Ariyalur.

In order to ease the existig traffic congestion, he said a ring- road had been sanctioned here and the Government has also sanctioned Rs 5.25 crore for acquiring the required lands. The ring-road would come up at an estimated cost of Rs 60 crore, he added.

The Bharathidasan University's constituent college here would start functioning from its own buildings from the next academic year. Steps were also being taken to establish a Kendriya Vidyalaya here, he added.
