BJP holds Centre responsible for "economic mess"

Bhubaneswar, Nov 2 (UNI) BJP president Rajnath Singh today blamed the Congress-led UPA government at the Centre for the present economic mess.

Mr Singh told newspersons here that the ''wrong economic policies and mismanagement by the Union government led to the present economic crises in the country.'' He dismissed the government's argument that it was the impact of a global phenomenon.

Mr Singh said the economic crises created a major problem in employment scenario as many workers were being retrenched. The government should foresee the situation and take timely action.

The BJP leader said ever since the UPA government came to power the prices of essential commodities had started sky rocketing hitting the poor people adversely. The government failed to contain the inflation rate, he observed.

Comparing the situation prevailing during the NDA rule with the present government, he said despite an international sanction following the Pokharan blast the NDA government managed to maintain a high growth rate and low inflation rate.

Mr Singh said his party would make price rise, terrorism and farmers suicide as issues during the coming elections.
