Wild elephants re-enter, create fear in Kolhapur Dist
Kolhapur, Nov 1 (UNI) A herd of four wild elephants entered the Chandgad tehsil of the district yesterday from neighbouring Karnataka and created panic amongst the villagers.
The pachyderms had destroyed the standing crops like paddy, sweet potato and banana among others, the sources said today.
For the last few years, the elephants entered the area from Karnataka during the winter season. However, this time they had come early, they said.
Farmers are worried as their crops had been destroyed.
Meanwhile, the Forest Department officials have spotted the herd in the farming areas of Tudiye and Hajgoles villages, they added.
