Major fire guts 50 shops in Oshiwara

Mumbai, Nov 1 (UNI) At least 50 small wooden furniture shops were gutted in a fire that broke out in a godown at Oshiwara in western suburbs of the city and spread to nearby godowns and shops.

According to fire brigade officials, the incident occured at 1330 hours, following which the entire area was cordoned off and nearby residential buildings were vacated.

Twelve fire engines and eight water tankers were pressed into service to extinguish the fire and ambulances were also deployed at the site, the officials added.

The work of extinguishing the fire was going on till the last reports came in.
