96 file nomiations for 7 assembly segments in Kashmir, Ladakh

Srinagar, Nov 1 (UNI) As many as 96 candidates have filed their nomination papers from seven Assembly segments in Kashmir valley and Ladakh region when the last date of filing papers ended last evening.

According to District Election office, Bandipora, 55 candidates have filed their nomination papers for three Assembly segments in this north Kashmir district.

The highest, 28 candidates have filed papers from Sonawari Assembly segment followed by 21 in Bandipora and six in border constituency of Gurez.

In the Leh district, nine each candidates have filed their papers from Leh and Nobra constituencies while 12 joined the fray from Kargil and 11 from Zanaskar in Kargil district.

Almost all the national and regional political parties have fielded their candidates from these constituencies.

Governor N N Vohra issued poll notification on October 24 for these constituencies.

The scrutiny of nomination papers for all these constituencies would be held on November 1, 2008 and date for withdrawal of candidatures is November 3, 2008.

However, the picture will be clear on Monday, the last date for withdrawal of candidature.
