Mirwaiz welcomes Ban's statement on Indo-Pak, invites him to Kashmir
Srinagar, Oct 31 (UNI) Welcoming the statement of United Nations (UN) Secretary General Ban ki Moon, chairman of the moderate Hurriyat Conference (HC) Mirwaiz Moulvi Omar Farooq invited him to Kashmir to see the alleged Human Rights violations by security forces.
Addresing Friday congregation at historic Jamia masjid here this afternoon, the Mirwaiz said the statement of Mr Ban was encouraging that India and Pakistan must resolve their issues.
However, he said, Kashmir was the core issue between two neighbours which remained unresolved for the six decades.
He said the issue is still pending in the UN general assembly where a number of resolutions were passed.
Mirwaiz Omar said it was now the duty of the UN to see the UN resolution are implemented and people of the Jammu and Kashmir are given the right to decide their future.
''We want to make it clear to Mr Ban that people of the state have rejected the elections which is nothing but to mislead the world community,'' he said.
He said elections were being held in the state for the past six decades without making any headway on the main issue.
The Hurriyat chairman urged Mr Ban to visit Kashmir to see the alleged human rights violations being committed by the security forces.
It was the duty of Mr Ban to play his role and see people of the state are given right to self-determination, he said.
Mirwaiz Omar said the arrests of separatist leader and putting him under house arrest will not help India to suppress the freedom movement in Kashmir.
He appealed to people to attend the Jamia Masjid, call for which was given by the Coordination Committee (CC) an alliance of both the factions of the HC, Kashmir Bar Association, traders organisations and other separatists groups. The CC spearheading the present agitation, including anti-poll campaign in the valley.
