Sensex closes at 9,851; Nifty above 2900

Mumbai, Oct 31: Bombay Stock Exchange's benchmark index Sensex closed at 9,851.92, up 8.93 per cent or 807.41 points. The index touched an intra-day high of 9870.42 and a low of 9361.66. National Stok Exchange's Nifty ended at 2907.45, up 7.8 per cent or 210 points. The broader index touched a high of 2,921.35 and a low of 2,696.30.

Strong buying was seen in frontline stocks while midcap and small cap stocks underperformed. The top gainers on Friday's trading are Mahindra & Mahindra, Reliance Communicationsm, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Jaiprakash Associates. While TCS and Ranbaxy Laboratories were in the losers list.
