13 CRPF,police jawans injured in attack on police station in Kashmir

Srinagar, Oct 31 (UNI) Militants today struck in main Baramulla town, when they attacked a heavily guarded police station with a hand grenade causing injuries to 13 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and police personnel, including two officers.

The attack, first after the Election Commission of India (ECI) announced seven-phase assembly poll schedule for Jammu and Kashmir, in the town came a day after normal activities resumed after six-day strike.

Official sources said militants hurled a hand grenade towards the main police station when senior officers from police and CRPF were present in a room at 1115 hrs.

However, the grenade exploded in the compound of the police station causing injuries to seven CRPF and six police personnel.

The injured security personnel, admitted in SMHS hospital here were identified as head constable Sonaullah, Mohammad Shafi, Fayaz Ahmad, Pretam Singh, Khadim Hussain and Daleep Singh( all constables of police) Inspector Bagmal, Sub-Inspector Ashok Kumar, HC Subash Chander, constable Sevanand, constable Devinder Yadav, constable Kamlesh Kumar and constable Prashant from CRPF.

The militants later managed to escape, they said.
