Private bus strike total in Kerala

Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 30: The strike called by the Private Bus operators was total in the State, affecting normal life in Central and Northern parts.

The strike called in protest against the government's proposed move to deny renewal of permits in certain routes affected the central and northern regions as people mainly depended on private buses.

The southern region was not affected as people there depended more on the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation.

A report from Kochi and Kozhikode said the strike was total. Normal life was affected in Malabar region as private buses, the main source of transportation, joined the state-wide token strike.

The strike was total in Kozhikode, Malappuram and Wayanad Districts, the report said.

However, jeeps, autorishaws, taxis and tempo vans were transporting passengers to their destinations in the region.

State-owned Kerala State Road Transport Corporation had pressed into service additional fleet to Balussary, Mavoor and Palghat to transport stranded passengers in the district, KSRTC sources said.
