PM to take part in Guru Granth Sahib tercentenary programme
New Delhi, Oct 30 (UNI) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Union Ministers Shivraj Patil and Ambika Soni will today take part in the 300th anniversary celebrations of the consecration of the Guru Granth Sahib at Nanded in Maharashtra.
Lakhs of Sikhs from countries like Canada, the UK and the US have converged in Nanded to be part of the week-long festivities, to mark twin tercentenaries-- of the consecration of the Guru Granth Sahibji as the perpetual Guru of the Sikhs and the Parlokgaman (departure for the heavenly abode) of Guru Gobind Singhji, the tenth and last human Sikh Guru on November 3.
It was in Nanded three hundred years ago, that Guru Gobind Singh, the last Sikh guru, designated the Adi Granth as Guru Granth Sahib, the perpetual Guru, ending the chain of human gurus.
It is here that the Sachkhand Hazur Sahib Gurdwara, one of the five temporal thrones or seats of authority (Takhats), is located.
This is where Guru Gobind Singh meditated on the banks of the Godavari in his final days.
