Gogoi reviews situation, curfew in Guwahati
Guwahati, Oct 30: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today reviewed the law and order situation in the state following the serial blasts and expressed dismay over the police's utter failure to prevent the bombings.
Mr Gogoi summoned the top brass of the Assam police as well as senior state officers and gave them a dressing down. The government also declared a red alert throughout the state.
The authorities clamped indefinite curfew in Guwahati city as angry people attacked police vehicles for their failure to provide security forcing the authorities to open blank fire.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh is scheduled to arrive here tomorrow for an on-the-spot assement of the situation.
The Union Home Ministry will send in more troops as the security apparatus has been left in complete shambles after the blasts, Health Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma said.
The Chief Minister's office informed that more para military forces were being despatched from neighbouring states to help the state police.
The Chief Minister was reportedly peeved that the Guwahati police was clueless about the attack.
