CITU threatens to paralyse iron ore supply from Kalta
Rourkela, Oct 30 (UNI) The Orissa unit of the CITU today threatened to stop transportation of iron ores from Kalta iron ore mine to various steel plants in support of their demand to revive the mine.
CITU general secretary Bishnu Mohanty told newspersons here that thousands of mine workers would hold a protest meeting on November 18 next as over 3,500 workers working in Kalta iron ore mines and Roxy loading siding under the Raw material division of the SAIL were virtually starving.
The monthly production of the mine plummeted from 1.20 lakh ton to around 20,000 ton now as the SAIL management was conspiring to mechanise the whole process.
Mr Mohanty demanded the SAIL authorities to intervene and solve the problem at the earliest.
Among others, CPI(M) leader Basudev Acharya and Steel Workers Federation of India general secretary B K Das are scheduled to attend the protest meeting, he said.
