Youths fined for netting birds in Pondy

Puducherry, Oct 29: The Forest department here today fined five youths of Pudukuppam near Ariyankuppam for catching birds by spreading nets in open fields.

On a tip-off a team led by the Deputy Conservator of forest, Devarajan, raided a field and caught the five red-handed.

The forest officials cut the nets and released more than 25 birds trapped in it.

The youths were taken into custody and were released later after paying a fine of Rs 800 each as this was the first time they had indulged in such an act.
