Village politics claims life of member of Bazigar community

Fatehgarh Sahib, Oct 29 (UNI) A 40-year old member of the Bazigar community was allegedly murdered with sharp edged weapons by a rival group of upper castes in Mehduda village of the district last night.

Police sources today identified the victim as Kartar Chand, brother of sarpanch, Mohinder Ram.

According to reports around 10 persons entered the house of the sarpanch last night and attacked his family members. However while the sarpanch and the other family members managed to escape, the intruders caught hold of Kartar Chand and wounded him sharp edged weapons.

He was rushed to the PGI, Chandigar where he died today.

The rivalry between certain members of a upper caste and the Bazigar community came to the fore during the Panchayat elections this year.

On the statement of Karam Chand's son, the police has registered a case against Tejinder Singh, Randhir Singh, Balwinder Singh, Surinder Singh, Ajit Singh, Sukhdeep Singh, Goni, all residents of Mehduda. Sources in police department informed that no arrest has been made so far.
