Renovation work on NH for Sabarimala Season begins Nov 3

Pathanamthitta, Oct 29 (UNI) Kerala Public Works (PWD) Minister Mons Joseph today said that the renovation work on the Punalur-Kottavasal 208 National Highway would begin on November three in collaboration with the Tamil Nadu Government.

Talking to reporters here, he said the stretch of the road left unused for 20 years would become a boon to Sabarimala Pilgrims from Tamil Nadu when made motorable. It was estimated the preliminary work would take 45 days.

Refuting the allegation of Devaswom Minister G Sudhakaran the PWD did not request additional amount to execute the maintenance work of Sabarimala roads, he said the PWD had submitted the report on Sabarimala Road Project to the government on June 30 last.

The amount demanded was Rs 22.37 crore but the government sanctioned only Rs 18.85 crore, he added.

Spending the sanctioned amount, the PWD was engaged in the work on Sabarimala Roads, he said and added as suggested by Mr Sudhakaran, another proposal enumerating new schemes would be submitted to the government soon.
