Haryana Roadways to purchase 1000 new buses by 11th plan
Chandigarh, Oct 29 (UNI) To augment and modernise the existing fleet of buses, Haryana Roadways today decided to purchase 1000 new buses by the end of 11th five year plan.
These buses will include Volvo AC, CNG, Haryana Gaurav and Semi Low Floor buses, Transport Minister Mange Ram Gupta said.
He said during the 11th five year plan, special emphasis was being given to introduce city bus services in major cities like Gurgaon, Faridabad and in the district headquarter towns.
To strengthen the urban bus services in the NCR and other big cities, the Minister said CNG and semi low floor buses were being inducted in these areas.
Mr Gupta said about 200 CNG buses had already been inducted in the bus fleet of Haryana Roadways and number was likely to be increased to around 1100 by the end of 11th plan.
Apart from this, some modern bus stands and multi model hubs were proposed to be constructed under public-private partnership at strategic points in the state, he added.
The Minister informed that during the current financial year, 40 semi-low floor buses had already been deployed in Gurgaon and Faridabad.
Recently, the Haryana Roadways won the Transport Minister's Trophy and a cash award of Rs three lakh for the lowest rate of accidents during the years 2005-06 and 2006-07 among all the State Road Transport Undertakings in the country.
