Relatives urge Govt to take steps to release lifers
Puducherry, Oct 28 (UNI) Relatives of life convicts at the Central Prison here, led by DMK Youth Wing Convenor R Siva, MLA, today urged the territorial administration to take immediate steps to release the life convicts, who had undergone about ten years of imprisonment.
In a memorandum submitted to Puducherry Chief Minsiter V Vaithilingam, they demanded release of convicts on grounds of good conduct.
Accpeting the memorandum, Mr Vaithilingam said being a Union Territory, the Government had no power to release the prisners.
However, the Government would approach the Centre for necessary action on the basis of the memorandum, he added.
