Convene all-party meet to discuss Lankan Tamils issue:Nedumaran

Chennai, Oct 28 (UNI) Tamil National Movement(TNM) leader and convener of Tamil Eelam Liberation Supporters Integration Committee. Pazha Nedumaran today appealed to Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to convene an all-party meeting to discuss the announcements made by External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee on the Lankan Tamils issue.

In a statement here, he said the all-party meeting, convened by the DMK governmnt on October 14, had adopted a resolution that the Indian government prevail upon the Lankan government to declare a ceasefire and stop supplying arms to the island nation's government.

However, when Mr Mukherjee called on Mr Karunanidhi here on October 26 and briefed him on the steps taken by the Centre, there was no mention about the ceasefire nor about India's committment not to supply arms to Sri Lanka, he said.

After Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's adviser Fasil Rajapaksa called on him in Delhi, Mr Mukherjee air-dashed to the city and briefed Mr Karunanidhi on the steps taken by the Indian government to protect the Lankan Tamils, but they were not satisfactory.

Hence, the Chief Minister should convene an all-party meeting to discuss about the statement made by the External Affairs Minister, he said.
