Rodrigues, Badal greet people on Diwali, Vishwakarma day
Chandigarh, Oct 27 (UNI) Punjab Governor and Administrator, Union Territory, Chandigarh, Gen (Retd) S F Rodrigues and state Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today extended warm greetings to the people on the auspicious occasion of Diwali- the festival of lights.
Describing the 'festival of lights' as a symbol of peaceful co-existence, joy and prosperity, Gen Rodrigues said that it represented the victory of good over evil and the light over darkness and exhorts us to be truthful and righteous, in our thoughts and deeds.
In a message on the occasion, Mr Badal said that Diwali was one of the most colorful and captivating festivals of India and the sparkling lights of Diwali symbolised ushering in an era of peace, prosperity and bounty.
''May this Diwali also further strengthen our resolve to serve our people with selfless commitment and a missionary zeal'', he added.
The leaders also greeted the people on the eve of Vishwakarma day, that follows the festival of lights, saying that the artisans and craftsmen to imbibe the spirit of dignity of labour as propagated by Lord Vishwakarma - the divine architect of the universe and presiding deity of all craftsmen and architects.
The real tribute to great deity would be that its devotees must enhance their skills and accumen to ably induct the modern technology into their craft, Mr Badal said in his message.
The leaders appealed to the people to celebrate these festivals in the true tradition of the composite culture and in an atmosphere of peace and harmony, rising above narrow considerations of caste, creed and religion.
