Government employees clash at Writers' Buildings; two hospitalised
Kolkata, Oct 27 (UNI) Two sections of state government employees clashed with each other at the Writers' Buildings today which left two people seriously injured.
The incident occurred when a group of employees, affiliated to the State Coordination Committee, were resisting their counterpart belonging to the State Government Employees Federation (SGEF) from sloganeering during tiffin hours in the corridor of the state headquarters, urging implementation of their charter of demands.
As the agitating SGEF employees d to withdraw their demonstration, a scuffle followed, resulting in the injury of the two who were hospitalised later.
A team of the police reached the site and dispersed the warring groups, as a large number of people witnessed the entire episode.
Describing the incident as ''most unfortunate,'' State Home Secretary Ashok Mohan Chakraborty told reporters that he was awaiting police reports and assured that the culprits would be brought to book.
''Both the sides have lodged complaints to the police, but we are yet to get the final report. We will act accordingly after receiving it,'' Mr Chakraborty said.
To a query on whether the incident maligned the image of the Writers' Buildings and put a question mark to the abilities of the state administration, he said, '' We cannot come to any conclusion, but we are definitely taking exception to such happenings.'' Mr Chakraborty pointed out that earlier also the Writers' Buildings had witnessed some ''infightings'' between employees and departmental actions had been taken.
