BJP demands investigation into Sensex crash

Mumbai, Oct 27 (UNI) Former BJP MP Dr Kirit Somaiya today demanded investigation into the stock market crash and asked who were the beneficiaries in the process.

Talking to reporters here, Dr Somaiya said, ''If there are losers, there also have to be beneficiaries.'' His comments were in the background of Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram's statement of last Thursday that ''if there are sellers, there have to be buyers in the Share Bazaar.'' The present crisis in the economy and the disaster in the capital market is the root cause of the speculative and manipulative policies and statements of Mr Chidambaram and the promoters, Dr Somaiya alleged.

Dr Somaiya has strongly objected to the demand for inquiry by the promotors of real estate and other companies.

''Why did they not ask for investigation when their shares had gone up continuously for 16 days? Why did they not make statement that such type of speculative/manipulative upward trend is not healthy for the Capital Market and for the Small Investors?'' Dr Somaiya said.
