Gangtok, Oct 27 (UNI) The ruling Sikkim Democratic Front (SDF) today demanded that the Congress high command sack Sikkim Congress Pradesh Committee (SPCC) president Nar Bahadur Bhandari, who had recently been convicted by a CBI designated court in a corruption case.

'' The Congress high command should sack Mr Bhandari from the party president post as he has been convicted twice by a court, '' said SDF spokesperson B B Gooroong during a press meet here.

Mr Bhandari, former Chief Minister, was convicted by a CBI designated court here on October 25 in a water supply scheme corruption case.

The CBI was called to probe the case in 1984 by the then Chief Minister B B Gooroong.

The convicted SPCC president had been given time to appeal in higher Court. He was also earlier convicted in 2007 in a disproportionate asset case and his appeal was being heard in the High Court of Sikkim.

Mr Bhandari, who was the Chief Minister for 14 years, was now convicted in two cases.

'' He is a tainted politician and if he has any morality left, he should resign from the SPCC, '' said Mr Gooroong.

'' Mr Bhandari has no moral right to continue in his public post.

He had been earlier convicted but it is unfortunate that he is continuing as the SPCC president because of his greed for post, '' said the SDF spokesperson.
