Congress MLA Manindra Mairenbam dies at 64

Imphal, Oct 26 (UNI) Senior Congress leader Manindra Mairenbam representing Moirang Assembly constituency, died today at the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) after a brief illness, hospital sources said.

He was 64.

Manindra was admitted to the RIMS following cardiac problem and referred to intensive care unit immediately.

The mortal remains of the senior leader were taken to the Congress Bhawan, Imphal, for public viewing.

Manipur Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh, his cabinet colleagues, legislators and large numbers of Congress workers offered floral tributes to the departed leader.

Mr Singh said the demise of Mairenbam created vacuum in the Congress party as he was a great social worker.

Manindra was elected for the first time in the ninth Assembly elections in 2007.

Manindra was cremated at Moirang.
