Arson in Allahabad over killing of Congress leader:3 injured

Allahabad/Lucknow, Oct 26 (UNI) At least three people were injured when police opened fire on a mob trying to torch a police station in Allahabad district this morning.

The mob, however, damaged five private vehicles and two roadways buses during their protest over the killing of Congress leader Venkatesh Tripathi last night under Kowrao police station in the district.

According to sources, police had to open fire when the mob tried to torch the Kowrao police station before resorting to heavy stone pelting. In the firing, three people sustained minor injury.

The people of the nearby villages on the Uttar Pradesh-Madhya Pradesh border who were protesting against the killing also blocked the Allahabad Rewa road, 65 kilometers from the Allahabad headquarters and damaged several vehicles including five cars and two roadways buses.

The situation in the area was tense but under control, police officials here said. Additional police forces have been rushed to the place while senior police officials were camping at the spot.
