Militant killed in encounter

Agartala, Oct 25 (UNI) A cadre of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) was killed in an encounter with troops of the Tripura State Rifles(TSR) at Adhikaripara under Manu police station, police said today.

Acting on a tip-off, the security forces launched a special operation at Adhikaripara, about 18 km from the police station, last evening.

The security forces came under severe fire when they were returning after conducting the operation around 2230 hrs.

In self-defence, the TSR jawans launched counter attack resulting in an encounter, police said.

The militants, however, managed to escape from the scene.

During search, a bullet-riddled body was recovered from the encounter site, said DIG (control) Nepal Das.

Senior police officials, including Superintendent of Police (Dhalai) Aneesh Prasad, rushed to the spot with heavy reinforcement.

Security forces launched a manhunt to nab the militants, he added.
