Mayawati's arrogant attitude stopping UP's development: LJP
New Delhi, Oct 25 (UNI) Lok Janshakti Party President and Union Minister Ram Vilas Paswan today strongly criticised the BSP government in Uttar Pradesh for denying predetermined programme of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi in the state and said it indicated that Chief Minister Mayawati has developed an ''allergy to the Gandhi family and was feeling threatened''.
The Mayawati Government had yesterday prevented Rahul Gandhi from visiting Chandrashekhar Azad Agricultural University at Kanpur.
Coming close on the heels of Rae Bareli Rail Coach Factory episode, Ms Mayawati's action yesterday indicated that she had developed an allergy to the Gandhi family and was feeling threatened, alleged Mr Paswan.
''These actions on the part of the Mayawati government in stalling developmental projects initiated by the Central Government in the state are neither in the interest of the state nor in the interest of the poor unemployed people of the state,'' he said.
''The present arrogant and power drunk attitude of Ms Mayawati is leading to the stalling of all developmental work in the state,'' he said.
Moreover, Ms Mayawati's claims of being sympathetic to the Dalit ring hollow in the face of rising atrocities against the Dalits in Uttar Pradesh during her regime which only goes to prove her credentials as one who is unsympathetic towards the socio-economic development of the Dalits, he alleged.
Citing the example of non-provision of land for setting up of the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research, a premier research institute at Rae Bareli, Mr Paswan said despite the efforts of the officials of his department, the state government has been most uncooperative.
He said if only the state government had taken a positive approach towards the proposals of the Central government in implementing developmental activities in the state, it would have immensely benefited the Dalits through reservation of seats, in higher education as well as securing employment.
