Woman held with 5 kg heroin in Punjab

Ludhiana, Oct 24 (UNI) The Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) today seized 5.175 kg heroin near Phagwara and took into custody two people, including a 55-year old woman.

DRI sources said that the value of the drugs is over Rs 25 crore in the international market.

Sources said a DRI team intercepted a car near Phagwara and on searching it found the heroin. The two occupants of the car, Jeevan Lata and her brother-in-law. Kuldip Singh were taken into custody.

The two were ferrying the heroin from Amritsar to Chandigarh.

On their preliminary questioning, the DRI took into custody two other people, whose names were not revealed.

Jeevan Lata, intially a resident of Jalandhar who had lately shifted to Chandigarh, was wanted by the DRI for quite sometime. Her son Vikas who is also involved in the heroin racket is currently on bail.
