Volunteers of VCK, AIADMK held for burning effigies
Puducherry, Oct 24 (UNI) About 124 VCK and 200 AIADMK volunteers, including a woman and legislators Anbazhagan and Om Sakthi Sekhar, were arrested today as Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) supporters burnt effigies of AIADMK supremo Ms Jayalalitha while AIADMK supporters burnt effigies of VCK leader Thirumavalavan and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President M Karunanidhi.
The VCK volunteers were protesting against the reported demand of Ms Jayalalithaa to arrest Thirumavalavan and her statement in support of Sri Lankan government.
The VCK volunteers led by secretary Pavanan assembled near the Venkatasubba Reddiyar statue and held a demonstration before burning th effigies of Ms Jayalalitha.
In retaliation, the AIADMK volunteers led by Puducherry unit secretary A Anbazhagan(MLA), assembled at the Kamban Kalai Arangam and took out a procession to Anna statue where they held a demonstration and burnt the effigies of Thirumavalavan and Mr Karunanidhi.
Meanwhile, Puducherry unit DMK convenor and former Chief Minister R V Janakiraman demanded stringent action against Mr Anbazhagan and others for burning the effigy of Mr Karunanidhi. In a statement here Mr Janakiraman said the burning of effigies of Mr Karunanidhi amounted to burning of ''Tamil'' itself.
